Cyndi's List

 www.cyndislist.com

When I first started researching many years ago, Cyndi's list was one of my most frequently visited websites.  If I wanted to know where to look for information, then her website would guide me in the right direction.

There are now over 320,000 genealogy related links on her website, which is free to use.  It is very important to spend time browsing the categories and to open every link in a new tab.
"I find that often people just automatically use the search engine on the site and don't explore the categories and sub-categories. I have had feedback from people telling me that they learn about new record types, new sources, and new ideas just by browsing." Cyndi Howells

  2. You visited me yesterday and I asked to see a picture of the walking stick from the battle above the clouds. I found one and posted it....on the B letter day. I am a big history searcher so thank you for Cyndi's list today. I am always looking for cool websites.

  4. What a great resource! I've left genealogical research to my elders mostly, but one day--when there's a little less crazy (meaning the littles have all moved out), I'm going to be on this bandwagon.

  7. We have two members in our family who keep all the records and research on ancestry.com. I'm going to pass this information on. Thanks for sharing.

  8. Sharon, thank you so much for supporting Cyndi's List! CL is now 17 years old and still free for everyone to use. I intend for it to be a jumping off point for genealogical research. Thanks again!
