  2. Did someone win the competition for the closest guess, and do you know the answer and intend us to guess too?

    1. Guess away but I have no idea! Gran didn't write any more on the photo than what I wrote so I cannot answer.

  3. Many questions...but when do you think this was taken? The dress and hat remind me of the 20's.

    1. Gran was normally so good with labeling photos - but not this time!

Yes the dress and shoes look 1920s but based on the other photos on the same page in the album, I would say that it was taken in 1930.

  4. I love the idea of a pet sheep taking part in a competition. Miss Nellie looks very elegant and pleased.

    1. I wonder if Nellie led the sheep for the mile? Surely not in those shoes!

  5. Now this had to be quite the fun guessing contest! The photo is just beautiful, so crisp and clear too.

    1. Better than the other game (men) played! They would draw a grid in a sheep yard and gamble as to which area that the sheep would do it's business!

  6. I wonder if the sheep lost any weight in the walk down the road.

    1. Good Clean Entertainment, which would be considered boring today by many!

  8. Kristin has a good point. When WAS the sheep weighed for the contest - before or after the mile-long walk? Might've made a difference, depending. Hopefully no one questioned the results since it was all in fun & perhaps for a good cause?

    1. The money raised was likely for the Winiam School or Hall. I wonder how they guessed the weight as I would have no idea. Did they pick it up?

  9. Imagine walking a sheep a mile! Probably on the road? And her dressed up? I understand sheep are docile and will follow a leader so I suppose it was easier than walking, let's say, a pig. I think it's wonderful that you still have that family photo and know some of the people in it.

    1. I have sent messages to people on Ancestry, who are likely related to Nellie as I thought they may appreciate the photo too :)

  10. I do wonder who led the sheep that one mile as everyone is dressed so nicely.

  11. She’s a beauty for sure - I meant the sheep - but the owner is rather elegant too!
